MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
The department of mechanical engineering is the biggest department in our college, which offers four-year full time Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E., Mech)and full time Master's degree in Thermal(M.E.,Thermal). The department has well experienced faculties with post graduation in engineering. The Department has well equipped library.
Training:
In addition to the laboratory and workshop practices during the session, all the students are taken to industrial visits to know the latest development in the field.
Assessment:
Students are examined at the end of each semester. The examination is being conducted by Anna University to which the college is affiliated and the same university awards the degree. The written examination answers are pooled at a common center and evaluated. The practical examinations are conducted with external examiners/internal examiners appointed by the Anna University.
Career Prospects:
This course is providing sound foundation in Mechanical Engineering in both theory and practice and the students will have excellent prospects to be employed in wide range of jobs. Automobiles, Railways, Airlines, Ship building industries and Repair industries, Manufacturing industries and various Government Organizations are some of the major employers of our graduates
FLUID MECHANICS AND MACHINERY LABORATORY
Fluid mechanics and machinery lab provide the knowledge basically necessary for the mechanical engineering students. All types of Pumps and Turbines are available in this laboratory to impart vast knowledge to the students in this area.
LIST OF EQUIPMENTS
STRENGTH OF MATERIAL LABORATORY
In the Strength of material laboratory, students are being trained to test the material properties by using the various testing machines available in the laboratory. A salient feature of this lab is that the lab is provided with an "Universal Testing Machine" with 100 MT capacity. It enhances for doing various special tests like 'U' bend test, tensile & compression test, shearing test, Torsion test, hardness test, Impact test and fatigue test.
List of Equipments:
MACHINE SHOP
The Machine shop is well equipped. The students are being trained on the various machines and machining processes available in the laboratory.
List of Equipments:
HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER LABORATORY:
The study of heat transfer is of great importance to engineers because of its utmost universal occurrence in many branches of science and engineering. The optimal design of heat exchangers such as boilers, radiators, refrigerators and air-conditioners requires a detailed analysis of temperature distribution and heat transfer. The laboratory is well equipped to experimentally to show the basis of heat and mass transfer such conduction, convention and radiation.
List of Equipments:
STEAM LABORATORY:
Students are thrown into light about the characteristics of oil, working principle of mini power plant, which comprises of boiler, turbine, throttling calorimeter economizer etc. Students are also given knowledge about compressors blowers, operating principle of refrigerators and air-conditioners.
List of equipments:
INTERNAL COMBUSION ENGINES LABORATORY:
This lab is well equipped with all types of engines and cut-section model of various engines to show the concept of valve timing. Experiments are given to know the working principle of engines, which are used in practice, dynamometers.
List of equipments:
CAD/CAM LABORATORY:
Our students are enlightened about the AutoCAD 2002 package. Through this lab, students are beaming with confidence and also train themselves in AutoCAD 2002 with various drawings and innovative designs. The concept of part programming and simulation is being imparted to the students using CNC Trainer lathe and CNC milling machines. The lab is well equipped with high configuration computers. Students are given exposure to 3D - modeling using the software packages like inventor, PROE, IDEAS, Mechanical Desk Top etc.,
DYNAMICS LABORATORY
To import wide knowledge on the concepts of force, temperature, torque, speed, strain, etc. measurement using appropriate devices for each. The concept of balancing, vibration, which is being used in our day-to-day life, is also verified experimentally.
List of Equipments:
Students association:
To cater the thirst of our students, they have formed an association 'ACME'05' (Mechanical Engineering Association). All the students are the members of this association. Organizing guest lectures, Quizzing, and Seminars under this association has led the students to understand the realities of the world.
