Field Base and Change Over Campsite <<< Have photo inside!!

We arrived Namibia on July 9, 0700 hours and it was very cold. It's frosty at night, and windy and cool during the day. We joined by local Namibian Venturers on arrival at Windhoek (capital city of Namibia) and undergo a training and induction period to learn the skills that will be required in the course of expedition. Each venturer will then undertake three different projects, a mixture of community, environment and adventure projects, over the following ten weeks. The expedition will close with a short clear-up period back at field base.

Phase 1 - Hardap (Environmental Project)  <<< Have photo inside!!

Project Explanation:

Working with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, this was a conservation project, the main task of which was to clear a 15km hiking trail. This took 10 days, with the remainder of the time being spent constructing a stone wall at a popular tourist spot to prevent erosion of the area through unrestricted vehicle access. In addition, the group created two information boards on the black rhinos located in the park to be located on the trails and joined the Armed protection unit in tracking them.

Phase 2 - Sports (Community Project)  <<< Have photo inside!!

Project Explanation:

During the phase two project, the group built upgraded sport pitches, coached the teachers, children and local community in four schools in Bushmanland. We also organised a tournament and educational workshops.

Phase 3 - Huab + Brandberg (Adventure Project)  <<< Have photo inside!!

Project Explanation:

This phase involved a trek along Huab and Aba Huab rivers, during which a scientific survey to assess the impact of the elephant population on the area was carried out. The last week of the phase was then spent on the Brandberg, where the group ascended to the summit (2573m), before clearing equipment from previous phases on their descent.
