Roland Ewubare, SkaddenArps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

With a forum of all the OB’s, friends and invited guests, introductions were made and our discussion began. The discussion format was free and informal and centered round our experiences as young professionals and graduate students, planning a path to be successful in our various fields.

First, our guest speakers threw some light on their experiences following their immigration to US and then they shared with us some of their trials and tribulations in their quest.

Basically, the main points of the discussion focused on the importance of the proper preparation necessary for the attainment of goals as a key element.

Of extreme importance is the establishment of a good network of positive thinking people who can share knowledge and experience.

Do your part, by researching current developments in your field over a time frame, to constantly equip yourself with desirable skills.

A conscious effort should be made to keep track of goals outlined to enable the evaluation of one’s progress towards goals over time.

In all, a healthy discussion took place and we all resolved that it would be a good idea to set the stage next year and at subsequent reunions to have increased participation from others who have similar experiences

We concluded by expressing our appreciation to all our speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to come out and share with us their experiences.

Special thanks were given to Olaitan, who was presented a plaque from us all, for his efforts at organizing the symposium and making sure the reunion arrangements all went smoothly.

Short term goals will include:

Each ‘OB’ member will serve as a resource to anyone new to a field in which we have some knowledge or experience on. Thus, we will have to prepare a brief summary of our current engagement, projects undertaken, career field, and other interests (½ a page to a 1 page long). This will provide a starting point for anyone planning on pursuing a career here in the U.S or Internationally in our fields.

Medium Term will include:

Involving more participants in our next reunion, older and younger OB’s as well as others from who may share our goals and interest.

Start up a Mutual investment account primarily to pay for our reunion expenses in subsequent years. Investments in stocks of the Big 4 were suggested, These companies have consistently returned earnings per shares that have exceeded the average mutual fund company index. Those interested in actively participating will need to indicate their interest by October 30th and will need to contribute the minimum amount towards the account. At this time, no amount has been set. But this amount will not exceed $500 per person.

The advantages of this account will mean every year we will all have a holiday together without having to worry about expenses as time draws near
