War is unavoidable a dark history that repeats itself. This new presentation of the classic tragedy vividly portrays the catastrophic effects of war upon women survivorsby reinterpreting Troy as Japan after the bombing of Hiroshima.

SocknBuskin is once again teaming up with local theatre veteran David Whiteley to bring you the story of The Trojan Women by Euripedes, transadapted by Canadian playwright Gwendolyn MacEwen. Whiteleys last directing credit was Third Walls The Misanthrope.

Come experience this emotional rollercoaster! Witness a genuinely creative masterpiece as Whiteley weaves a story which ruthlessly examines women wrestling with their values and questioning their place in the world as the last remnants of their lives crumble around them. MacEwen's writing is muscular, plain-spoken poetry filled with vivid images and extremes of emotion, ranging from hate to
exhilaration to despair and even humour. A chorus of women mixes individual and collective voices to set the tone of the play, while individual women and men represent specific points of view. And with the 60th anniversary of Hiroshima quickly approaching, the play serves as a reminder of the devastation that occurred in Japan while commenting on the political and historical ramifications.

SocknBuskin is also pleased to announce a partnership with The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) for this production of The Trojan Women. 50% of the total ticket sales of the matinee performance on Nov. 20 will be donated to the CBCF. Throughout all 5 performances, a Donation Box will be available in the lobby of Alumni Theatre (Carleton Campus) for voluntary audience contribution to the CBCF.
