My wildflowers- 2002
In January 2002 I decided I wanted to rebuild my pond. For several reasons: to cut down on maintenance time, because I wanted my fish to grow bigger but mostly because I wanted to have babies. So I started to research. Around Feburary I had it drawn up but there were a few building problems that I needed to figure out. So I went to my friend who owns Pondscapes in Tampa and he helped me figure it out. Then it was back to drawing and finding the best prices. Some things I had figured out and had started to order the parts. (like the stock tank).
I originally built my pond in the summer of 2000. All because I tried a water fountain (and didn't like how it worked) and really wanted a water feature in my yard. The yard went through a total redesign. From electrical, to plumbing, to plants. Just about everything. The pond went through many changes after it was built also. First it had rocks, then I took the little rocks out and left the larger ones. Then I took out 90% of the rocks I had originally purchased because they were a pain in the *ss to clean. This site is dedicated to my new pond, though you will see pictures of how the yard was before, just to give you an idea of all the work that went into it.
My Wildflower Bed which is supposed to attract butterflies. Well I don't know about butterflies but they sure do produce alot of flowers. These were seeds that I had purchased and I planted them thick thinking only half would come up. Boy was I wrong. I've cut these back, thinned them out and pulled out the ones I didn't like. I don't know how many times I've done this and they just get fuller. Sometimes I think I'll pull them all out so the Ground Jasmine can take over but they are so pretty and they stay in bloom all year long. This picture was taken March 8th. You can see the orange safety fencing I had to put around the pond while waiting for the new liner. That's because I run a day care and it's the "rules".
Update: 5/2002- ended up pulling the wildflowers out so I could transplant the ground Jasmine I had growing around two sides of the pond which I had to take out because Wayne kept stepping on them.
Update: 2/2004- now I've taken out the Ground Jasmine and done this................

During that time I went to the pet store and picked up a few feeder fish. (I had lost around 20 in December and my fish were hiding from me. I think because their group had gotten so small. So I wanted to get them back to being "pets") Well, either the fish brought in the same bug which killed my fish in December or the bug was still around. This made it necessary to start as soon as possible. Thank god I had ordered the tank already. That became my quarantine tank.
So on Saturday, February 23rd the fish came out of the pond and the work began. Click the "Next" button to see the pond rebuilt.
