The Village:
Nankese-Ada is a village near Suhum, a district capital in the Eastern Region    of Ghana.    The estimated population of this village is over 10,000.
The main sources of drinking water are hand-dug wells, streams, and the
Densu River, all of which carry a high rate of water-born and other
illnesses: bilharzias, guinea worms infestation, malaria, and river
blindness.    To address the  concerns of it's people, concerned citizens
formed  an organization called the Nankese-Ada Community Development
  Association (NACDA) in 1993.

~On a sad note, Nana Baffour Adi Martey II, Chief of Nankese-Amanfrom,
passed away.     I was able to visit him one last time when I was in Ghana
during the summer of 2007.    He was a great and accomplished man and
lived to be 90 years of age.     He had humble beginnings as a cocoa farmer
in the late 1950's.    He relocated to the Central Region and retired from
active service in 1964.    In 1974 he returned to Nankese-Ada and was
installed chief by the council of elders in the community.   He dedicated his
life to the service of those in the community.   He served on many local
committees and also founded the Nankese-Ada Primary School.   He was a   kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by the community and by
  his  beloved family.
