SCRIPTURAL WAYS TO PRAISE GOD
PSALM 71:22-23
#175 (This is No. 6 in the Praise & Worship series)
Introduction: How we are to praise God the bible way. The two major catagories are thanksgiving and adoration. One is to thank the Lord for all the favor and blessings He has shown. Adoration is worship to the Lord with no strings attached. Just worship God for who He is and to extol His character, attributes and perfection's, rather than anything He has done for which we are beneficial.
I. Vocal expressions of praise and worship.
II. Shouting unto God.
III. Singing = the most common expression of praise. Psalm 100:2
A. Ephesians and Colossians exhorts us to sing.
A. Many scriptural ways inwhich we may express our praise to God.
1. We will examine approximately 14 of these in the next weeks.
2. In each of these there is a release inside.
a. Causes one to become FREE.
3. We were instructed to PRACTICE PRAISE.
B. Praising God with the VOICE.
1. Psalm 26:7, Psalm 42:4, Psalm 71:23-24
2. As David did,constantly speaking Praise to God. Psalm 28:7, Ps. 34:1
3. We are to make our mouth and lips instruments of praise.
A. The verbal praise we have spoken of requires only conversational volume.
1. With this we thank Him, worship Him, praise Him, appreciate Him.
B. There are times when it is fitting to raise our voice and shout unto God. Psalm 47:1
1. Shouting will take the starch out.
2. Makes one very un-dignified.
C. Remember that decency and order are still God's priority.
1. There is a time and place for joyful noise and the shout of praise.
a. Psalm 5:11 When one gets saved.
b. Psalm 3;11 Because of who we are
c. Psalm 35:27 Who favor God and His salvation
d. Psalm 132:9, 16 Praising God for godly teachers
e. Isaiah 12:6 For His presencewith us
f. Zephaniah 3:14 Just a spontaneous act of praise
g. Leviticus 9:23-24 When God's glory comes In, a time to shout
h. I Samuel 4:5 When God's presence is ushered in
A. It is the most natural and simplest reaction to God's great wonder.
IV. A variety of songs.
1. Should be spontaneous expression of joyful emotions.
a. Negative thought == Don't get emotional
b. Why not? We cry, laugh, shout at other things.
c. Why not get very emotional in praise and worship to God.
2. Singing is a very valid expression of praise and worship.
B. What happened immediately after the exodus from Egypt and crossing the Red Sea.
1. Miriam led the children of Israel in singing praise to God.
a. Coming out of darkness, saved, a time to praise God.
2. The children of Israel had been delivered out of darkness. Exodus 15:21
C. Many references to singing throughout the scripture.
1. Psalm 61:8 Doing God's will
2. What you see Is but a few, there are many others. a. These will show the vast importance of praise.
3. Singing is a sign of gladness and contentment.
4. It is a sign of joy, indicating a satistisfaction of life.
5. Positive emotions that minister strength to the total being.
6. God delights in our singing praise to Him.
Conclusion: Singing is our greatest expression of praise and adoration. As we each begin to sing from our heart, then real praise begins to come. When real praise comes, there is a great release inside. The release will cause outward expressions, vocal expressions with all our being.

C. Spiritual songs come directly from the spirit.
1. These all inspire the church.
1. The Holy Spirit gives words and the melody = in tongues and in understanding. iCorinthians 14:14-15
2. Singing in the Spirit. "Tongues of Angels" 1 Corinthians 13:1
3. This is spontaneous and unplanned, they come by faith.
4. These comes by listening to the Spirit of God.
