Outline # 176 (This is No. 7 in the Praise & Worship series)
Introduction: Again we are looking at what the bible says about praise and worship. Looking back we see the word commanding us tb praise Him. The two main areas of praise and worship is thanksgiving and adoration. We are to thank God for His goodness, but also just praise Him for who and what He is.
I. The vocal expressions = with our voice.
A. The two are to shout and to sing.
2. The actual event begins; the march around the city.
1. Let's look at Joshua 6, the fall of Jericho.
a. Vs 1, Jericho was shut up because of the children of Israel.
b. God began to instruct Joshua on what and how to do.
c. Vs 5, Explains the end results. [What our bible tells us if we obey]
a. On the seventh day --vs 16
B. Singing unto the Lord.
b. Vs 20, the total victory with a SHOUT.
1. Something we do all the time. Psalm 47:6-7
II. Physical expressions of praise and worship.
2. This praise is to be from the heart.
3. When we sing from the heart, it ministers to our whole being.
a. Singing unto the Lord brings peace and satisfaction.
4. God delights to hear us singing His praises.
A. The bible cites several ways of physical expressions to worship God.
1. Standing.
Conclusion: We have practice each of these at one time or the other. When praise reaches the height God desires, we will begin to see these manifestations in every service. We are gaining in each service.
a. To stand erect is a sign of respect.
B. At times when some one sings or ministers, the Spirit will prompt us to stand. Psalm 33:8
b. If an important person enters room, people stand in respect and honor.
2. Raising our hands.
1. Psalm 134:1, 135:1-2
2. We stand in His presence while we praise.
a. A universal sign of surrender.
D. Strong statement. "Sometimes this is the hardest thing to do, yet so simple." [ex. J. Osteen]
b. By raising our hands high before the Lord, we acknowledge our total surrender to Him.
c. We send the message to God, we are unconditionally yours.
1. No weapons In our hand.
2. Nothing to fight against Him.
1. Once we have put ourselves out of the way and surrender to Him, it becomes easy. [ex. young school boy, afraid to raise hand]
a. SO ]UST DO IT!
b. Psalm 134:2, Psalm 28:2, Psalm 143:6
3. Clapping our hands. Psalms 47:1
a. When something wins our approval and admiration.
1. Letting one know we approve or accept what's done.
2. Giving a standing ovation for someone.
b. If we do this for man, isn't it more appropriate to give God that recognition.
4. Bowing low or kneeling.
a. Just to fall to our knees in prayer.
1. Psalm 95:6, Phil. 2:10
5. To fall prostrate before the Lord.
a. Portrays a sign of deepest reverence.
