JESUS, OUR PASSOVER LAMB
EXODUS: 12:6
(This is outline No. 184 and the first in the series.)
Introduction: Until now I had never seen the parallel of Exodus Passover and Jesus Passover. We will see today how our God orchestrated both to fulfill His prophetic words to Abraham.
I. Jesus, our Passover Lamb. vs 6
Conclusion: We must see the awesome purity of God's Sacrificial Lamb. We must invite Him to place Himself over us. He becomes the covering, prepared by our Heavenly Father, for all who would be right with God.
A. As the Passover Lamb was examined for purity, so was Jesus.
II. Jesus became a Prospective Covedng for all who receive Him.
1. The lamb was set aside on the tenth day of Abib [April].
2. Luke 19 records Jesus triumphant entry Into Jerusalem a few days before His crucifixion.
a. Examined fully for four days before being killed on the fourteenth day of Abib.
b. It had to be a lamb "wIthout blemish".
a. At the same time people were bringing their sacrificial lambs to the priest to be examined.
3. Jesus, the Lamb of God, was also coming before the people and the leaders for examination for His suffering and glory. 3 John 1:29, Hebrews 7:26.
B. Jesus was examined by religious leaders. Matthew 22:15-46
1. Jesus was examined by the Herodians. vs 16
C. Examined by civil authority. John 18:12, 28
2. By the Sadducess = = vs 23-33
3. Lawyers and Pharisees == vs 34-46 [35]
4. Their object was to entangle Jesus with word.
5. Vs 45-46 == 'no man'
1. Jesus was being examined by Pilate and Herod at the same time the Passover lambs were being examined and declared faultless by the priest.
3. Without knowing or realizing, Pilate was declaring the worthiness of Christ, the Lamb of God.
2. Jesus was declared faultless three times by Pilate. John 18:38, 19,1
4. [Luke
23:15]
a. Pilate had no idea how important this declaration of innocence was.
b. He had no idea Jesus was the Lamb of God presented to him for inspection.
c. Pilate knew little of the divine decree some fourteen centuries before. "Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male" Deuteronomy 15:21.
d. Pilate's words are absolutely prophetic. John 19:6.
a. Worthy to die as God's Passover Lamb for sinful humanity.
4. Yes, after FOUR DAYS of careful examination, JESUS WAS CRUCIFIED.
a. The REAL MEANING OF PASSOVER had been achieved.
5. At the time the sacrificial Passover lambs were being slain and their blood spilling on the Temple altar.
a. That is the same time they took Jesus out and crucified Him.
6. Two facts:
a. Passover's Past Historic Aspect remembered the deliverance from Egypt.
b. Passover's Prophetic Aspect was fulfilled on Calvary.
A. Jesus must become each one's Passover Lamb. Exodus 12:13, I Peter 1:19.
B. Blood on the door post. Exodus 12:6-7.
1. NOTE: No accident that the blood on the panel above the door dripping down formed a vertical line.
C. The Crucified Christ.
a. Like the center shaft of the cross.
b. Connect the blood on the two side frames of the door with a horizontal line ---- YOU HAVE A CROSS.
2. This pointed prophetically to the future to the coming of Messiah, the Son of God, who would die on a cross. Exodus 12:22-23.
3. Notice now this scripture - - "He will passover that home�
4. The scripture says "When God sees the blood". vs 23.
a. God did not 'skip over' that home but - -
b. God placed Himself over the Israelites home as a covering.
c. He was protecting them from the Destroying Angel He had sent among the Egyptians.
1. The blood on the door post is then clearly seen as the Crucified Christ standing at the door of believers homes as Savior - Protector - Deliverer.
D. All must realize and see the awesome purity of God's Sacrifical Lamb.
2. Psalm 91 describes the protection we enjoy when the blood of the Passover Lamb is applied to the door of our heart. vs. 1-6
3. Everyone who accepts the shed blood of the Lamb, hides behind the cross, finds perfect protection from Satan.
4. Perfect protection from the Destroyer. I John 3:8
a. We must stay under the blood of Jesus to have that perfect protection. [what happens when we are off by one degree]
5. OUR PERSONAL PASSOVER, THE BLOOD OF JESUS.
a. The blood on the door post rendered the Destroyer helpless.
1. Same in our own homes. Hebrews 2:14
2. The Crucified Christ standing at the door of your life, renders Satan powerless over you. What freedom. HALLELUJAH!! John 8:32-36
6. Jesus, Our Covering.
a. Passover's personal aspect must be fulfilled in every readers life.
b. Everyone must see and receive Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away our sin.
1. We must invite Him to place Himself over us.
E. Jesus is the Garment of Righteousness that passes over our heads. "We put on Christ" Romans 13:14.
2. He becomes the covering prepared by our Heavenly Father.
