RESTORATION IN MARK'S GOSPEL
MARK 1:1-8
This is #187 in the Restoration Series
Introduction: The object is to bring to light the ministry of Jesus. We are to do the works that He did, and even greater because He has gone and it is harvest time. The time is now for us to get into the presence of God as never before.
I. Background of the Gospel of Mark.
A. The personality of Peter is reflected on most every page.
1. The gospel is quick in movement, active, impulsive
2. Rapidity of action is it's main characteristic.
3. The narrative moves quickly, event to event.
B. Vividness of detail.
1. Mark Incorporates vivid details not found in Matthew or Luke.
2. Many important facts of the looks and gestures of Jesus.
C. The picturesqueness of description.
1. For instance, the feeding of the five thousand.
2. Instructs them to sit down in ranks on green grass.
3. The word 'ranks' means flower bed.
4. A beautiful sight, colorful garments against a background of green grass.
D. Mark majors on Jesus.
I. It gives us the work, rather than the words.
2. Mark records eighteen of the miracles of Jesus and only four parables.
E. Mark wrote primarily to the Romans.
1. He never used the word law.
2. No genealogy or childhood.
3. The Romans were more interested in power than pedigrees.
4. Here we find Jesus portrayed as the Great Conqueror of the storms, demons, disease and death.
5. He Is the Servant of the Lord.
a. The Conquering Servant.
b. Then the Suffering Servant.
C. Finally the Triumphant Servant in His resurrection.
F. Mark's gospel Is primarily his historical.
1. It has a very strong theological emphasis.
2. Verse one strikes the keynote, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
3. Over and over the deity of Jesus is underscored.
4. He is the Son of Man, the Messiah, the One Whom long centuries have waited for.
5. One of the strongest theological passages is: Mark 10:45.
6. This Is the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Good News of Salvation
through His atoning death.
II. The ministry of John the Baptist.
A. The voice of one crying in the wilderness.
1. Vs. 3 Make ready a strait way (Kings road].
2. Vs. 4 Preached repentance.
3. Vs. 5 Many were coming to hear that voice.
4. Vs. 7-8 His proclamation = One greater than us coming.
B. The Baptism of Jesus = Vs. 9-11.
1. Vs. 12-13 = The wilderness experience.
III. Jesus begins His preaching, teaching and healing ministry.
A. The calling of several of His Disciples.
1. Vs. 1618 = Simon Peter and Andrew.
2. Vs. 19-20 = James and John.
B. Preaching In the synagogue Vs. 21-22.
1. Vs 2~27 = Casting out devils.
C. In house ministry = Vs. 32-34.
1. Vs. 30-31 = Healing Simon's Mother In law.
2. Vs. 32-34 = Many came to the house.
3. Vs. 35 = Prayer time, getting Into the Presence of God.
D. The urgency to minister = Vs. 38.
1. The leper ask == "If you choose, you are able to cleanse me." Jesus' reply = " I do choose, BE CLEAN!" Vs. 41-42.
Conclusion: If we are to do the works of Jesus, we to must enter in the closet for that time of intimate prayer with the Heavenly Father.
Jesus� desires for all of us to become a vessel to be used Ill this end time harvest. To be restored back is to be cleaned out of all things that hinder, regardless of the cost.
