Nathan out lbw - love before wedding

After a hectic international season, New Zealand's cricketing fraternity was all smiles at the wedding of star batsman Nathan Astle to Kelly Winter.

Guests at Saturday afternoon's wedding at St Michael's Church, on the corner of Durham and Lichfield streets, included big names in Canterbury and New Zealand Cricket, Chris Harris, Gary Stead, Geoff Allott, Daniel Vettori, and former New Zealand manager John Graham.

Black Caps captain Stephen Fleming was the best man and Astle's brother, Daniel, a table tennis representative, was the groomsman.

A reception followed at the Millennium Hotel, Cathedral Square.

The bride wore a classic, strapless, white dress with silver embroidery on the bodice. Her bridesmaids were in dusky blue.

It was a date Astle has been looking forward to. At the recent cricket awards ceremony, he said in his acceptance speech for the One-Day Batsman of the Year award that he could not wait until Saturday. The couple announced their engagement before last year's tour to England and the World Cup.
