Grammar is useful less as a set of arbitrary rules than as structural guidelines.

Many people believe that one should say 'fewer apples' and never 'less apples'. Some people also believe that 'Show me something which works' is wrong and 'Show me something that works' is right. These conventions are interestingly explained in grammar textbooks, but adherence to them is becoming unconventional to the point of obsolescence. Since they serve no purpose (no matter how much we may love them) they will die.

The best rules are common sense, so even if you don't know them, you should be able to follow them.
