Welcome! Sugar Shack Racing Team is my personal
crew, basically made up of myself and several close friends.
Bucknam Family Racing (BFR) is literally a parent team for us, as
my father, Steve "Crash" Bucknam, is the captain and official founder of
that team. During the racing season, my team, Sugar Shack Racing,
(SSR) mainly operates on our own. However, for certain events, such
as D.E.N.T., Hopkinton State Fair, and other major races, SSR joins forces
with BFR to please the crowd and dominate the competition. The combined
team had a strong showing on June 25th, 2000, at the D.E.N.T. Eastern Regional
Championships. Myself, and my two cousins, Chuck and Larry Bucknam,
each competed. All three of us qualified for the main event.
Larry twisted a drive shaft and unfortunately was out early on, and Chuck
had some mechanical problems that also put him out. I somehow managed
to keep my car running, and was happy to finish 8th out of 20 cars.
I was somewhat disappointed in this finishing until I was awarded the "Feature
Mad Dog" Award. This award is given a driver "for exemplifying the
spirit of fierce competitiveness and showmanship" at the D.E.N.T. event.
I won a great plaque and $1000!!
Here I am after my heat. The "Mighty Malibu", #409 held up
great after a hard hitting heat.
As a matter of fact, I did most of the hard hitting. During the heat,
there was a red flag, and my dad, (who is to the left and in front of me
in this picture) got my attention and helped me to calm down and save a
little car for the main event. I had a blast!
It rained a lot , and we all got soaked. Here I am with Todd
Dube' from DENT productions, receiving
my "Mad Dog" award after the feature event. I want to know where
Todd got that tan! I also want to know why every single production
company thinks I'm from Massachusetts! I haven't lived there for
about 16 years!
