JOAN BABY

Rarely in today's marketplace of manufactured pop icons and artist wannabe's does the "Real Deal" come along but JOAN BABY delivers. Promoting her brand new CD PUSH, she stole the show at JSP Record’s March showcase held at the famed 100 Club. Now The Funky Diva of Blues and Soul has returned to the United Kingdom with her red hot show to turn the town out like a match to gasoline. She'll be there until March 1999.

Baby has had a successful career as a bassist performing in a wide range of bands including a live recording stint with the original RRRiot Grrls, BARBIE ARMY. Recruited in 1989 by veteran drummer Jimmie Mayes, she began to play on the hard core South Side blues scene. It was there (where if you cannot play -- someone literally kicks you off the stage), that the Princess of Soul cut her teeth with post-war Chicago Bluesmen Lefty Dizz, Jr. Wells, James Cotton, John Primer and hosted a two-year stint of Tuesday night gigs at the legendary Chicago Southside Checkerboard Lounge. (The picture of JOAN BABY on the CD was taken onstage at the Checkerboard) Not necessarily the background one might expect from the fair-skinned "raised on a farm" fabulous JOAN BABY. It was also there that she first began working with Vance Kelly who taught her the 70's funk that she loved and gave her the inspiration to write such songs as the opening cut "If It Ain't (One Thang)" and "You Know How To Treat Me". Other musical influences are classical in nature as heard on "Keep On".

Something different, something new - JOAN BABY, dubbed "The New Blood of the BLUES" is much more than BLUES. Let the Princess of Soul take you to the musical smorgasboard. She is sassy, funky bassist and an expressive vocalist, but more than anything a great entertainer known throughout the United States for her scorching performances. From Paris to Prague, Mississippi to Munich and back to the U.K., come see all the fire and fun she brings to the stage.
