To live nearer to their mother, who is resting from an illness in a hospital, little Mei and her elder sister Satsuki are moving with their father to a house in the country. Playing in the yard, Mei spots a small unusual creature and follows it into the hollow of a huge tree. In there she discovers Totoro, a giant furry creature, fast asleep. Totoro can't be seen by adults, but only to children who love them.

The girls also call on Totoro for help when they are in trouble! Made by Hayao Miyazaki, this film to to give young urban Japanese children a taste of childhood in the countryside.

This is a tender film and has really cute and wonderful scenes. Where else can you find a gigantic woodland spirit that flies along with the wind on a spinning top! and a bus in a shape of a huge friendly cat with mouse headlamps!!!!
