Church Marquee Signs:

To prevent truth decay, brush up on the Bible

Standing in the shadow of the Son will prevent you from burning

Don't wait for the hearse to take you to church

Don't give up. Moses was once a basket case, too

Life has many choices, but Eternity has only two. What's yours?

With great sadness we said goodbye to a dear friend last month. Bro. Art Viars passed away on July 5th, he was 79yrs young. Our heart felt sympathies go to Sister Phyllis and her family. We know that Bro. Art will be missed greatly. He was a good man, but more than that, he was a saved man, and that is all that anyone could hope for. Please keep Sister Bailey in your prayers after the loss of her husband on July 7th. Those that are grieving and mourning need all of our prayers and thoughts at this time.
It was a time for traveling for some of our folkes. Sister Betty took a trip to Bentonville, Ark for a family reunion on the 2nd. Wonder if she saw any Wal-Marts, I would imagine they might have one there. Sister Judy traveled to Portland, Ore. to visit Bobby's cousin on the 8th. They also made a site-seeing visit to the Hoover Dam. Ask Judy if she has taken up learning any foriegn languages as of late. She will be glad to explain that, I'm sure. Jonathon will have returned home this month, but it sounds possible he might be back on the road again for another two week stint. I hear it depends on if dad will let him go. I think that might be a hard decision. The Hinkles came back in fine form. We enjoyed another round of "Jesus take my hand", our theme song here at Jordan. They always lift our spirits, and we enjoy them so much.

"Let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece" (Judges 6:39).

There are degrees to faith. At one stage of Christian experience we cannot believe unless we have some sign or some great manifestation of feeling. We feel our fleece, like Gideon, and if it is wet we are willing to trust God. This may be true faith, but it is imperfect. It always looks for feeling or some token besides the Word of God. It marks quite an advance in faith when we trust God without feelings. It is blessed to believe without having any emotion.

There is a third stage of faith which even transcends that of Gideon and his fleece. The first phase of faith believes when there are favorable emotions, the second believes when there is the absence of feeling, but this third form of faith believes God and His Word when circumstances, emotions, appearances, people, and human reason all urge to the contrary. Paul exercised this faith in Acts 27:20, 25, "And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away." Notwithstanding all this Paul said, "Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer; for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me."
