Funny Ones

Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is the bride dressed in white?" "Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life. " The child thought about this for a moment, then said, "So why is the groom wearing black?"
######### A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!" While she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again. As she ran she once again began to pray, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late...But please don't shove me either!"
######### Three boys are in the schoolyard bragging about their fathers. The first boy says, "My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, they give him $50." The second boy says, "That's nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, they give him $100." The third boy says, "I got you both beat. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon. And it takes eight people to collect all the money!
######### Adam and Eve had an ideal marriage. He didn't have to hear about all the men she could have married, and she didn't have to hear about the way his mother cooked.
######### An elderly woman died last month. Having never married, she requested no male pallbearers. In her handwritten instructions for her memorial service, she wrote, "They wouldn't take me out while I was alive, I don't want them to take me out when I'm dead.
######### A Sunday School teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary took Jesus with them to Jerusalem. A small child replied: "They couldn't get a baby sitter."
######### A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor thy father and thy mother," she asked "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one little boy answered, "Thou shall not kill."
#########At Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs. Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and said, "Johnny, what is the matter?" Little Johnny responded, "I have pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."

Well, it's almost Thanksgiving, are you ready? Will you be busy baking pies, cleaning house, and possibly out pursuing your prize turkey the old fashioned way? I would imagine that most of us will get our turkey the old fashioned way... at the local grocery store. Isn't that how mom and dad use to do it, it's how I remember. This is the perfect time to think and reflect on the things God has blessed you with. What kind of year has it been for you? Has the pitter patter of little feet joined your family? Or perhaps a new friendship has come into your life, or possibly and old one has returned. How about renewed health, or a promotion at work, even the purchase of a new car or home. All these are gifts from God, for He is in control of all of our life, even the blessing that comes from watching a mother bird feed her little newborn. Recognizing that God is in charge of everything in our lives helps us understand that nothing is left to chance. While your family is gathered around the dinner table, read these verses and consider all that God has done for you, Psalm 103:1-5, 8. It is good to be humble in front of God, never boastful.
Well, isn't it wonderful to have Bro. Tim and Diana back home safe and sound. I'm sure they had a restful and rejuvenating time. We sure missed them when they are gone, it's hard to think of church without that little blondie running around, and yes, I mean Katherine. It's good to get away and be able to relax now and again. A special thanks goes to Bro. Dalton for filling in for Bro. Tim while they were away. He did a great job of bringing the message. Pray for him and Chessa while they are traveling to see that new great granddaughter for the first time.

A Bar of Steel
by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman

"I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument" (Isa. 41:15).

A bar of steel worth five dollars, when wrought into horseshoes, is worth ten dollars. If made into needles, it is worth three hundred and fifty dollars; if into penknife blades, it is worth thirty-two thousand dollars; if into springs for watches it is worth two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. What a drilling the poor bar must undergo to be worth this! But the more it is manipulated, the more it is hammered, and passed through the fire, and beaten and pounded and polished, the greater the value.

May this parable help us to be silent, still, and longsuffering. Those who suffer most are capable of yielding most; and it is through pain that God is getting the most out of us, for His glory and the blessing of others. --Selected

"Oh, give Thy servant patience to be still,
And bear Thy will;
Courage to venture wholly on the arm
That will not harm;
The wisdom that will never let me stray
Out of my way;
The love that, now afflicting, knoweth best
When I should rest."
