NUTS BY THE FENCE

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." He just knew what it was. "Oh my," he shuddered, "it's Satan and the Lord dividing the souls at the cemetery." He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. "Come here quick," said the boy. "You won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls." The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk." When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me.........." The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been telling' the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord himself." Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last they heard, "One for you, one for me." And one last "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence, and we'll be done."
............They say the old man made it back to town a full 5 minutes ahead of the boy on the bike!

September brought baptisms. We had two christians join our church, Bro. Bruce and Sister Trisha, two were saved in our church, Bro. Steven and Bro. Jonathan. How wonderful it is when God increases us. Keep these in your prayers because we know satan will try to deceive.
On a sad note, Bro. Kenneth lost his mother last month. We grieve with him for his loss, but as he said, she is in heaven right now. That gives great peace when you know that about someone's soul. We pray for you and your family, Bro. Kenneth. Please remember all the prayer requests that we have on Wednesdays. We have alot of loved ones in need, so much sickness, so many from some type of cancer. God can heal anything. Let's try to be as diligent as our young Conner in remembering all of our loved ones and bringing their name in front of the Lord. Looks like it's vacation time again. Pray for traveling mercies for Bro. Tim and Sis. Diana as they take a much need rest. I hear Bro. Dalton will fill in for Bro. Tim, we look forward to that, I'm sure. We have also heard news of Bro. Phillip and Sis. Kari, it seems they are coming back from the land down under (that's what southern Okla is). It will be so wonderful to have them back in our congregation once more. Bro. Phillip was heard to say something about not ever wanting see a lawnmower again.... Well, Thanksgiving is just next month and Christmas is just around the corner. Remember... don't stress! Take it one day at a time, and remember to get rejuvenated at church, it's the best stress reliever you can have!

Long Hours
by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman
"I will give myself unto prayer" (Ps. 109:4).

We are often in a religious hurry in our devotions. How much time do we spend in them daily? Can it not be easily reckoned in minutes? Who ever knew an eminently holy man who did not spend much of his time in prayer? Did ever a man exhibit much of the spirit of prayer, who did not devote much time in his closet?

Whitefield says, "Whole days and weeks have I spent prostrate on the ground, in silent or vocal prayer." "Fall upon your knees and grow there," is the language of another, who knew whereof he affirmed.

It has been said that no great work in literature or science was ever wrought by a man who did not love solitude. We may lay it down as an elemental principle of religion, that no large growth in holiness was ever gained by one who did not take time to be often, and long, alone with God.
--The Still Hour

"'Come, come,' He saith, 'O soul oppressed and weary,
Come to the shadows of my desert rest;
Come walk with Me far from life's babbling discords,
And peace shall breathe like music in thy breast.'"
