The Evil Dead

Trivia

Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell all went to Michigan State University.

The original script for The Evil Dead was named The Book of the Dead.

These three men formed Renaissance Pictures.

Filming began in November 1979 for three months in the cold.

The gliding effect of the 'wind demon' was achieved by placing the camera on a plank of wood, in the centre, and then one man at either end of the wooden beam would hold it and run through the woods.

The main effect and stop-motion scenes took 18 months to complete. Much of this footage was actually shot in Sam Raimi's garage.

The film was renamed, as the original title was too long and not snappy enough.

The budget for the film was $50,000.

During The Evil Dead, a poster for The Hills Have Eyes can be seen.

Sam Raimi made his first 'deadite film' when he was 18 years old.

When Ash picks the necklace off the floor at the end, it's laid out like a skull.

Zombie guts was in fact creamed corn died green.

Was originally banned in the UK for several years until being released heavily cut on video in 1990. The video was cut by 1 minute and 55 seconds. Cuts included the infamous tree rape scene and lots of blood and guts scenes including the eye gouging. In December 2000 it was resubmitted to the BBFC and was passed uncut on video.

Considered by Mary Whitehouse as the worst of all video nasties.
