Bookworm Bookmark
2003 Nicole's Crochet Bistro

This bookmark is a great way to use up those scraps of yarn after a larger project. It only takes a few yards of yarn, so you can make several if your bookmarks tend to grow legs and walk away, or use a gift trim or puffy stuffer.

Finished Size: approx. 1"x12"
Hook: Size G/4.25mm aluminum
Supplies: Small amount worsted weight yarn
Gauge: Not important

Stitches and Abbreviations Used:
Ch: chain
Dc: double crochet
Hdc: half double crochet
Sc: single crochet
Sl st: slip stitch

Worm: Leaving approx. a 6" tail, ch 50, 4 dc in 4th ch from hk, (5 dc in next ch) 9 times, (2 dc, hdc, sc) in next ch, sl st in each ch to end. Fasten off leaving approx. a 6" tail.

Finishing: Tie ends into a double-knotted bow, and then tie an overhand knot at end of worm, covering the bow. Tighten knot, and trim loops to make tail.

Optional: If desired, you can weave in the ends to omit the tail. You can create eyes for your worm by making french knots at the top of the worm or sewing on small jiggle eyes. If you wish to make a longer bookmark, or are using sport-weight yarn, simply lengthen the starting ch.
