Chapters 4
"None of your buisness. You're the reason she's even hurt." Her eyes
filled
with angry tears and Zac put his arm firmly around her shoulders.
"Who the hell is this?" He said pointing to Zac.
"Dad, thats none of your buisness. Now leave before I call security.
You are
supposed to be in jail." She said firmly.
"Actually Jen, they have no proof that I did it. Your mother is
dilusional
and she thinks I pushed her. She actually just tripped over her own two
feet.
And theres nothing you can do to put me in jail." He said, smiling
cruelly.
"Dad, I'm warning you. Leave. Now."
"Why you little...how dare you talk to me that way..." He raised his
hand to
hit her, but Zac leaned over her, protecting her.
"Move over, this is my daughter, and I need to teach her a lesson about
respecting her elders." He growled.
"Actually, you're the one who needs to learn the lesson about respect."
He
grabbed Jens hand and fled out the door with her.
"Come on Jen! Run! We need to get to the other entrance and call
security
before he finds out where she is!" She sped up a little bit, but her
leg was
in too much pain to go very fast.
"Okay, here's a door." They began banging on the heavy metal door after
they
figured out that it was locked.
"I'll stay here and keep banging, you go find another entrance, and
hurry!"
She begged Zac. He nodded and ran off to find another door. Jen
tightened her
fists and banged on the door as hard as she could. She began yelling
for help.
"Well, I wondered where you went." She heard her dads voice behind her
and
didn't even bother turning around to see him, she just turned and ran.
She
heard his footsteps behind her, getting closer and she tried to go
faster.
Her foot caught on a branch and she tumbled forward.
"Now I got you." He whispered in her ear as he grabbed her hair.
"Let me go. Dad, let me go or I'll scream." Her voice was shaky from
fear, no
matter how hard she tried to steady it.
"Scream, and you'll be tasting this." She looked down and saw a flash
of
metal. She gasped. He had his knife. She didn't know what to do.
"Dad, please-" He hit her on the head with such great force with the
handle
of the knife that it knocked her out cold. He then sliced her arm in
four
places and her face in two and looked for any clues about the room
number of
his wife. He found it written on her hand, where she had written it
earlier.
He had to wipe away the blood dripping down her hand to see it. 225. He
left
her there and ran to the elevator inside the hospital. He smiled at the
elderly couple inside. They smiled back, having no idea his intentions
for
being in the hospital. He gripped his knife in his pocket and when he
got to
the third floor, he smiled to himself.
Zac ran inside the door and
asked the
lady at the desk to call security.
"Why do you need security?" She asked him slowly.
"My girlfriends mom is in the hospital because her husband beat her,
and he
came back, and he's probably on his way up to her room by now. I don't
know
what he's planning to do, but it didn't look good. He beats my
girlfriend
too. Please, do something!" He yelled. The nurse looked taken aback,
but she
dialed a number on the phone.
"Yes, we need immediate security in room--"She looked at him for an
answer.
"225."
"Room 225. There is a man who is not supposed to be there on his way
up. Yes.
It's her husband. Hurry please." She hung up the phone and smiled at
him.
"They're on their way." Zac nodded and flew out the door again to find
Jen.
He ran to the door where he left her, but she wasn't there.
"Jen! Oh my god, JEN!" He saw her body crumpled up nearby and bloody
laying
on the grass. As he got closer, he could see the deep cuts on her arms
and
face. His eyes began to water as he checked to make sure she was still
breathing. She was. He sighed with relief. He quickly got up, looked
around
and ran straight for the entrance.
"HELP! my girlfriend, she's hurt...really bad and we need someone out
there
right now!" He yelled at the lady at the desk.
"Is this an emergency?" The lady asked calmly.
"YES! But it just happened...just get someone out to the back! And
hurry!" He
yelled as he ran out the door again.
"Jen, Jen, just hold on baby, someone's coming to help. Just hang in
there
for me." He cried, his voice choking.
"What's going on?" Someone yelled from behind Zac.
"Please help her. I don't know who did this, but I have reason to
belive it
was her dad. Just please help her!" He yelled The men got on the ground
and
looked at the cuts.
"Looks like someone banged her on the head pretty good, too. She has a
nice
bump on there. Here, help me get her on the stretcher. We're gonna need
to
take her inside and call her mom to get permission to treat her."
"But her moms in the hospital! And her dad is just...crazy." Zac
answered,
frustrated.
"Is her mom in this hospital?" Zac nodded. "Is she awake enough to be
able to
give us permission to treat her?"
"I think so. As far as I know she is."
"Okay, great. Let's take her inside and get an X-ray on her, and stitch
a few
of those cuts up." The men loaded Jen onto the stretcher and carried
her
inside, Zac following close behind. Before he walked inside, he looked
back
and out of the corner of his eye saw the blue sports car speed out of
the
parking lot. He clenched his teeth and swore to himself that he would
do
whatever it took to protect Jen. Anything.
Zac woke up beside Jens bed when she groaned slightly and moved around.
"Jen? It's me baby. You're gonna be okay." She opened her eyes and
looked up.
"Zac, where is he? What did he do?" Zac stood up beside the bed and
stroked
her hair, which was sweaty and matted with blood from the slices on her
head. He just looked down and didn't answer her.
"Zac? Where is he?" Jen asked again, more frantic and anxious that
before. He
looked down at her alarmed face and took a shaky breath in.
"Jen...he hurt her real bad. He cut her throat. She's in surgery now,
and
there isn't much hope. You need to keep her in your prayers. But he's
in jail
now, and Tyler is in the surgery waiting room. He told me he would come
up
and tell us if any more news came in." He saw the tears falling quickly
and
silently down her cheeks and wished he could make all the pain go away.
He
wanted to see her like the happy person that she used to be. The person
that
he fell in love with. He still loved her, with all his heart, he just
hated
to see her in pain. He remembered the night that she had told him the
truth,
the night that he found out that her father was destroying her. He
couldn't
sleep that night, he was laying in bed wide awake and just couldn't
sleep. He
walked out to the living room and turned on the TV with the remote,
still
lying on the couch from earlier when his family had watched a movie
together.
He remembered turning down the volume so low that he could only hear a
few
murmurs from the television, so as not to wake his family. He
remembered
sitting on the couch, flipping channels, and hearing a knock at the
door. He
remembered opening the door and seeing Jen. Seeing her, half naked and
bloody. He remembered being scared and angry at whoever did this. Zac
came
back to reality again when Jen reached out and touched his arm. He was
suddenly aware of the beeps of the IV and the chill of the room. The
same
anger he had felt that night came back again, and he took Jens hand in
his.
"I promise, with all my heart Jen. I promise, that I will never let
anything
like this happen to you again. I swear it." She looked at him with her
tearstained face and whispered, "I love you." He nodded as Tyler came
into
the room.
"They couldn't believe it. She came through with flying colors. She'll
make
it. She lost an amazing amount of blood, and she won't be able to talk
or
breathe on her own for awhile, but she's alive. Alive and going to be
fine."
Jen began to cry again, this time from relief. She looked at Zac and
smiled.
He smiled back. And Jen knew that she was safe.
