5K "Use Your Wheels to Run for Meals"
On Saturday March 30th, 2002 almost 90 runners and 25 volunteers came out to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL to participate in the "Use Your Wheels to Run for Meals" 5K race/walk for charity. (Click here for pictures) On Easter weekend, runners traveled from as far as Iowa, Wisconsin and Ohio to race in a 5K and help raise money for the DeKalb County Meals on Wheels program. Thanks to the more than 100 participants and 8 local business sponsors, the American Marketing Association was able to raise almost $1600 for the Meals on Wheels program.
The winner of this year's race was Matt Ordzowialy, who finished the course in 17:04. Other medals were handed out to the top three male and female winners in each of three age categories. (To view all runner times, please click here) Oranges and Bananas, candy donated by Nestle, and water donated by Soft Water City, was available for all participants before, during and after the race.
This race could not have happened without coordinators Justin Banaszynski and Amber Jacoby, and the AMA members, who arrived at 6 a.m. to set up the 3.1-mile racecourse. In addition, more than 60 runners registered the day of the race and everyone that participated received a free t-shirt commemorating this event.
AMA would like to thank all the individuals and organizations that helped make this race a success. A special thanks goes out to all the volunteers from the AMA and Meals on Wheels.
