WORLD CUP FEVER - June 29

Second Round

Germany

Mexico

Holland

Yugoslavia

Mexico aren't going to beat Germany are they?
They're a goal up, you know, and it's that Hernandez again.
Oh yes, I like him.
I'd like him a lot more if he didn't go diving all over the place. The referees really should clamp down on this sort of behaviour. You wouldn't see that nice young Michael Owen do it.
The Germans look like a spent force, over the hill, lacking creativity and pace...
Yes, and Mexico are playing extremely well. They're going to score another!
Oh, that was close.
Should have wrapped up the game there.
You know, you can never write off the Germans though.
That's true.
See, they've just scored a goal.
Yes, but if Mexico can just hang on I think they could win it in extra time.
That sounds a bit optimistic. Let's face it, every bugger watching this game knows that the Germans are going to win.
True, it's only a matter of time really. There, Bierhoff's got it. Two-one, all over.
Mexico never stood a chance.

Holland made hard work disposing of Yugoslavia, who helped by missing a penalty. Bergkamp could have got himself sent off for stamping on someone with a very long name but not as long as this sentence although it was sort of an accident I'm sure. Edgar Davids scored a late winner and there was some pushing and shouting after the final whistle, between van der Sar and Bogarde.

no way was it a foul (by dennis), says alan hansen

Shots off target:

Thought for the day: 'The divine powers bestowed upon Princess Di by a hysterical, infantilised nation are now being assumed by a TV linkman [Des Lynam].' Terence Blacker and William Donaldson (the man behind Henry Root for anyone who knows what I'm talking about).

Yellow cards: Alan Shearer and Rob Lee. Yes, I know, it's shocking and I'm sorry. But they both had holidays booked for this week (together with their families in Barbados). No doubt there'll be excuses about provisional bookings but I won't have it. Now get out there and beat the Argies!

Your Football Quote of the Day:
'I don't think there is anybody bigger or smaller than Maradona.' Kevin Keegan
