Silence

I long for the sound of silence
     Pauses in conversation
To think of what to say
     Or revel in quiet reflection

I feel no awkwardness
When tongues have stilled at length
The absence of idle sound
Gives time to pray for strength

And if you can be patient
     Watch me for a while
Suffer heartfelt agony
     Cover with a smile

Ask me what I'm thinking
I'll shake my head and pout
But ask again and wait...
Let the silence draw it out.
