Circular to all students & members of the JKAI NOIDA Dojo

February 08, 2005

Dear Students,

Ossu.

You will all be very pleased and proud to know that the 12 member team from our Dojo, that traveled to Goa for the 22nd JKAI National Championships, and which consisted of  8 junior/colour grades, returned with 10 silver and 2 bronze medals!!

I must admit, that in preparations for this event, I had to conduct the Team-training sessions with a slightly ‘tougher than usual’ approach. Our Dojo has upheld a very high reputation at the All-India level, and has always had a very high medal tally… so the pressure to make the best of what we had to work with was always there… and pretty evident.

However, all that pain and agony paid up… our juniors, were brilliant... to the extent that many times, I was approached by other coaches and state members, who congratulated me on the superb performance of our little colour belts.

I would like to congratulate the following individuals on their performances and for upholding the Dojo’s honour:

Bhairvi Tandon           Green Belt        -9 Team Kata   Silver

I would also like to update you on how and where we were put up by the organizers. The venue was the Bamboo Motels, just off the river Mandovi. Most participants were put up in rooms on a 5/6 persons sharing basis. For those who wanted to be put in a less crowded room, the organizers provided the transportation and accommodation in nearby hotels at no extra cost. The meals, included in the package price, were pretty decent… especially the lunch and dinner. Then there was a swimming pool to dive into after a day’s work; a pool table; and the organizers also put together a sight-seeing tour and several disco nights, where the participants from all over India could mix around and shake a leg.

For those who would like to know about the Training Camp with former World Champion, Shihan Takenori Imura, words cannot explain enough what the experience was like. I feel fortunate because for all the 5 days, I was the one who was called upon by Shihan to demonstrate with him. Let me tell you something… I have not seen any 54 year old as strong and as fit as Shihan Imura!!

After the Camp, we had Dan Gradings, a Technical Seminar, followed by Technical Qualification Examinations, and finally the JKAI Annual General Body Meeting.

I would like to thank all the participants, their family members, our acting Manager & Coach, Mr Siddharth Prakash, and all the mums and dads who pitched in. As discussed, we will soon be starting a ‘mums & dads’ special class on Sundays at the Dojo. More news on this class coming soon.

I would further like to urge all my students to train harder and keep aiming high… for there is always another horizon beyond this one. If this experience has given you the confidence, the disappointment, the hunger to achieve more, the drive to excel… then keep this fire burning, and be diligent with your study of Karatedo… and you shall become the victor.

To those who were present at this championship, I hope you saw for yourself what I meant when I said, that if you train and fight  like a champion…even if you lose… people always treat you, respect you and address you as a champion!! Keep that honour alive!

Finally, I would like to congratulate each Team member for their superb performance. Please remember that this was not easy… and hence keep in mind, that in life, for that one moment of glory… one must go through a lot of agony and discomfort… that is what builds character. I would like all the senior members of our Dojo to personally congratulate the juniors and take up the responsibility to see that they continue to raise their standards. We will soon be having a small get-together at the Dojo so that everyone can share their experiences.

God bless!

Ossu.

Yours in Karatedo,

Neeraj Dhawan
