From MNB to Now or Never - From Boyz II Men

The story of Now or Never begins before they were even called Now or Never. The band was originally started just as an unserious group of guys getting together to jam once in a while. The 4 boys were originally known as the “Matt Nicoll Band”, and they didn’t have many high hopes from the start, mostly just playing covers of easy punk songs, and getting together only about once a week. The configuration of the band was also different, as Cole was the vocalist, and Matt and Marc took turns playing bass. The band had some fun in this configuration, and even managed to write a couple originals, such as “30 Second Song” and “Mshop”. They even wrote a song, that never saw the light of day, which was a lyrical masterpiece by Cole, entitled, “Morning Wood”. The Matt Nicoll Band played their first show in Cole’s garage in the fall, as a part of “Garageapolooza”. The show went okay, as some songs were performed fairly well, although some weren’t, in part due to an out of tune bass guitar. That was the first, and only show that the band played as the Matt Nicoll Band. The next phase of the group came after Cole decided he wanted to expand his musical horizons, and start playing the bass guitar. Cole bought a bass, and soon after that, the band was created with the lineup as it stands today. With the new band configuration, and more dedication as a band now present, it was time to think of a new name. The guys tossed around a bunch of different names, such as “Puss N’ Boots”, “Send her Flowers”, and “Working Class Hero”. In the end, they settled on Now or Never. With the new name, and new desire to practice, the band began writing new songs, and establishing themselves as a decent band. The first real show was played at the Box on November 3rd, and the band was met with a fairly good reaction. Some of the playing was sloppy, but it was an all around good show. Since then the guys have written even more songs, have played another successful show at the Box, and now have plans to record an album. The future looks bright for these young stallions of the music world, so stay tuned for more chapters in the history of Now or Never.
