Hi, this is a more general street view report on Northampton where you'll find little gems of information that you didn't actually know!
In 2004 a survey was done to find out the worst crime spots in Northampton, they are as follows:
1st was Abington Street, 2nd - the Racecourse, 3rd - Wellingborough Road, Town Centre front, 4th Broadmead Avenue, Headlands/Eastfield, 5th Barrack Road, 6th Weedon Road, St James, 7th Grafton Street, 8th Harborough Road, Kingsthorpe front, 9th Quorn Way, Semilong, 10th St James Park Road, St James.
Monthly crime reports are taken and the Town Centre in the last 22 months 15 of them months Town Centre came top of the worst crime in Northampton, others included Headlands (Aug 04) St James (Oct 04) Semilong (Jan 05) Briar Hill (Feb 05) St James (Apr 05) Thorplands (Nov 05).
The Town Centre has double the crime rate of the second worst estate St James.
You are 5 times more likely to be attacked in the Town Centre and 2 times more likely to be robbed then any other estate.
The Mounts has the highest vandalism rate in the whole of Northampton with St James, Abington and Far Cotton next.
The worst burglary to all crime ratio in Northampton is Queens Park in St Davids with 71% of all crime being burglary. This is followed by Little Billing in the eastern district with 62%. Burglary rates are currently highest in the Town Centre followed by Abington, Mounts and St James.
The worst attack and robbery to all crime ratio estate currently belongs to Lings in the eastern district where 54% of crime is attacks/robberies. This is followed by Eastfield - 47%, Town Centre - 46%, Spring Boroughs 33% and Kingsthorpe Hollow 31%
The worst outright crime rate for one month was the Town Centre in Janaury 2006. The worst outright month for the whole crime in Northampton was June 2005.
In a Census 2004 study, one estate in the Castle ward made 97th in the highest crime in the whole of Britain, a further 7 more estates from Spencer, Delapre, Thorplands, Lumbertubs and St James made it in to the top 1000.
Of the Top 10 worst estates, 8 of these are in the Central areas which exclude Kingsthorpe 7th and Duston 8th.
Currently the most dangerous places to be robbed or attacked are: Abington Street, Gold Street, The Racecourse, Billing Brook Road, Wellingborough Road and the Barrack Road.
Since 2003, there have been a total of 8 murders in Northampton.
Other
Boughton Green in Kingsthorpe is currently the largest ward in Northampton with 10,720 population. This is followed by Kingsley - 9968, and Eastifled - 9118.
Castle [Semilong, Spring Boroughs] has the highest households, 4647 (with 9068 living in the ward).
Abington has the highest density population with 18505 per hecatre.
Nene Valley is the least densly populated ward in Northampton, 1888 per hecatre.
Census 2001 Facts (which are basically 5 years old)
St Crispin and Castle are the most ethnic diverse in Northampton with 16% of the population of a different ethnic make up.
Old Duston and Parklands are the least ethnic diverse with 3%.
Lumbertubs has the highest mixed race ethnic population which is 3%, a high figure. This is followed by Spencer - 2.62% and Thorplands - 2.47%.
St Crispin [Town Centre and Mounts] has the highest black ratio, this is 5.13%, in second is Castle 4.95%, third is Abington 4.33% followed by Thorplands 4.05%.
Northampton has one of the highest black populations outside London.
St Crispin also has the highest asian population with 7.85%, this is followed by Castle, Weston and Lumbertubs.
Lumbertubs has the highest Chinese/Other population which is 2.22%, this is followed by Billing, Kingsley and East Hunsbury.
