UFF-DA!!!

The water in the kitchen doesn't mean more fish dinners!

Our Sons of Norway Nortun Lodge #1 -016 has a very serious problem. The roof is leaking in several places, and the water is coming through the ceilings in the Viking room, kitchen, and storage locker areas. The roof has been patched so many times it looks like a patchwork quilt. It is now so bad that another patch job is not an option, as the leakage is causing both cosmetic and structural damage. The accepted bid to install

a full rubber roof is $42,535, plus $3.50 per square foot to repair any structural damage uncovered when the old layers of roofing are removed. It is possible the repairs to the roof will exceed $50,000. A wide range of fund raising possibilities are currently being considered by the Board, but right NOW we need YOUR HELP. PLEASE consider a

tax deductible (ID No. 410-63-8731) gift of any amount to help our lodge.

Please send your donation to:

Norway Hall “Roof”

21 North Lake Avenue

Duluth, MN 55802

Sincerely, Clyde M. Erickson, Vice President

Volunteer of the Year

Margaret Rodwold received “Lakeshore Volunteer of the Year” for her endless giving, dedication and hard work. This surprise presentation was made April 26th (her birthday) after packing meals. Margaret was then invited to attend the annual meeting of Ecumen, Lakeshore Lutheran Home's parent organization, in St. Cloud on May 4th.

She has volunteered as a driver and packer to ensure that thousands of meals were served to elderly presons in their homes. She has supported the home delivered meals program for more than 25 years. Margaret has enjoyed the many coworkers and pleasant atmosphere.

Clyde and Lynne Erickson accompanied Margaret to St. Cloud where she received a dozen roses and a plaque that reads:

“Ecumen (living fully after 50) presents Recognition and Appreciation to Margaret Rodwold for her devoted and loyal service as a community volunteer for the aged. Given this 4th day of May 2005

Signed by James L Pederson, Chairman”

Congratulations Margaret!

Robert Sørlie Wins the Iditarod!

Robert Sørlie won the world’s longest dog race, the Iditarod. This is his second win; he also won the race in 2003. Robert Sørlie’s nephew, Bjørnar Andersen, only 27 years old, took a sensational 4th place. It was a happy, but tired Robert Sørlie who finished the race. “It feels good. Now I’m ready for breakfast,” said Sørlie just after he arrived in

Nome, Alaska.

From Anchorage, in South central Alaska, to Nome on the Western Bering Sea coast, each team of 12 to 16 dogs and their musher cover over 1150 miles in 10 to 17 days. The Iditarod has been named “the last great race on earth”. Through beautiful nature, freezing

temperatures and long hours of darkness one can see the special relationship between Man and his Best Friend. The race route is alternated every other year, one year going

North through Cripple, Ruby and Galena, the next year South through Iditarod, Shageluk,

Anvik. “Team Norway” consists of Robert Sørlie, Kjetil Backen and Bjørnar Andersen. Robert is 47 years old and works full time as a fire fighter in Oslo Airport Gardermoen. He had 24 dogs in training for this race, all Alaskan Huskies. When he finished the race, he had 8 dogs left. Bjørnar is Robert’s nephew, 27 years old and the winner of Finnmarksløpet in Norway last year.

Princess Martha Louise gives birth to a baby girl

A daughter has been born to Norway's Princess Märtha Louise and Ari Behn at 8:20 a.m. On April 8. The new daughter is their second child and second girl. The palace announced that the president of Norway's parliament, the Storting, had been

informed of the birth and that the baby would be named Leah Isadora Behn.

The newborn weighed 3,760 grams (8 lbs 4 oz) and was 52 centimeters (20.4 inches) long. The king and queen expressed their joy at the birth of their third grandchild.

The palace announced that Princess Märtha Louise was expecting on Sep. 20 last year and said the child was expected in mid-April 2005 - in other words, Leah Isadora arrived a week or two early.

The palace also planned that the birth would take place at the national hospital,

Rikshospitalet University Hospital, just as Maud Angelica. There was speculation that the princess wished for a home birth at Bloksberg, where the family is now staying.

Leah Isadora Behn will be fifth in line for the throne, after her older sister, her mother,

Princess Ingrid Alexandra (daughter to Crown Prince Haakon) and Crown Prince Haakon. Leah Isadora will not have a royal title. On April 29, Maud Angelica celebrates her second birthday.

New Royal Heir on the Way

Staff at Norway's Royal Palace announced Monday that Crown Princess Mette-Marit

reigning monarch. “We are very happy. It is going to be very nice,” said Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit to TV2 in Kristiansand. A statement from the palace Monday afternoon reported that the “crown couple” expect their second child in December. The statement went on to report that, “on the advice of her doctor,” the Crown

Princess “will take it easy” during the near future. “The situation isn’t dramatic, but

the doctor’s advice may lead to changes in Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s program,”

the palace concluded.
