Definition of Healing Touch:

Healing Touch (HT) is an energy based therapeutic approach to healing.
HT uses touch to influence the energy system, thus affecting physical,
mental, emotional, mental and spiritual health and healing.

The Goal of Healing Touch:

The goal of HT is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system to help the person to self-heal.

Application of Healing Touch:

HT is used extensively in the nursing profession. All areas of nursing can use HT.
This work will also benefit physicians, social workers, counselors, massage therapists, teachers,
physical therapists and any other interested individuals who desire an understanding
of healing work using energy based concepts.

History of the Program:

The HT Program was developed by Janet Mentgen, RN, BSN who has been practicing energy based care since 1980 in Denver, Colorado. Janet is a past Holistic Nurse of the Year with the American Holistic Nurses Association. Janet personally studied with many of the primary contributors to the program, including Delores Krieger, Dora Kunz, Rosalyn Bruyere, Barbara Brennan and Dr. Brugh Joy. Utilizing key techniques from several of these healing professionals, HT began as a pilot program in 1989, then became the HT Certificate program sponsored through  AHNA in 1990. HT became AHNA Certified in 1993. In 1996 Healing Touch International, Inc. became the certifying authority, with AHNA endorsement.
HT is taught regularly throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands, and has also been taught in Romania, Mexico, and other locations. Future classes are planned in other countries.

Levels of Healing Touch Instruction

Level I:  18-20 clock hours of instruction
Allows persons with varying backgrounds to enter, acknowledge previous learnings,
and further develop concepts and skills in energy based therapy. Basics of the human energy field (aura),
the energy centers (chakras) and introduction to assessment methods and energetic interventions.

Level IIA:  20 clock hours of instruction
Allows participant to gain specific skills necessary for advanced practice.
Emphasis is on deepening skills, developing healing sequences for specific client needs,
learning back & neck techniques, and gaining skills in therapeutic interaction.

Level IIB:  20 clock hours of instruction
Continuation of IIA, but specifically geared as an introduction to higher level auric work
and energy applications.  Prerequisite reading is Barbara Brennan's "Hands of Light", and
reading "Light Emerging" is encouraged.

Level III:  Practitioner Level
2 classes, 30 clock hours of instruction each
The level covers approximately one year of study, beginning with Level IIIA and ending with IIIB.
Topics include: mentorship, case study, ethics, establishing an HT practice, client-therapist relationship,
self-improvement and health community networking.
After completing this level, participant is able to apply for Practitioner Certification with HTI.

Level IV:  Instructor Level
This level is open only to Certified Practitioners. Class emphasis is on group dynamics, setting up
and promoting classes/introductions, principles and methods of teaching and learning, and a
full review of Level I course content. The apprentice Instructor will participate in a series of classes as an assistant and co-instructor, culminating with a supervised solo teach.
After completing this level, participant is able to apply for Instructor Certification with HTI. 

Development of the Healer Series
These offerings include Advance Practice, HT Spiritual Ministry,
HT and Principles of Hypnosis, HT and the Labyrinth Experience, and Therapeutic Communication.
There is also a separate class for using Healing Touch with Animals.
