Representing the common interests and concerns of our membership
to ensure the current and future social and economic viability of it's members

The North Shore Independent Forestry Association was formed March 2, 1997.  The membership was made up of independent loggers, holding Overlapping Licenses issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources, who harvest timber from Crown land.  This was the first time this group joined to form one organized alliance.  At that time there were thirty eight Licensees, licensed by the Crown, of which three were receiving mills.  The independent Licensees sell the majority of their harvested timber to these receiving mills.

Licensees conduct their forest operations throughout the Northshore Forest (former Mississagi and Spanish River Crown Management Units amalgamated) which is located along the northern shores of Lake Huron, stretching from Bruce Mines to Nairn Centre, and north past Hinkler Road and covers a total area of 12,506.9 sq km.....learn more.

Emergency Evac Sites are points registered with the emergency response groups to assist forest workers in receiving medical attention as soon as possible.

Forestry workers as well as recreational users of these forests will benefit by having these sites available in the event of illness or injury.

When working or enjoying your activities in the forest, please keep access sites clear.....learn more.

Signs are posted at the entrances of many active logging roads through out the Northshore Forest to remind travellers that they may meet logging traffic.....learn more.
NSIFAI strongly promotes Health & Safety, whether it is through offering certified training courses or by providing information and articles regarding safety and health issues.

Resource Stewardship Agreements (RSA) are business to business agreements, negotiated by a licensed resource-based tourism establishment and a Sustainable Forest Licensee.

An RSA is an agreement between the forest industry and one tourist outfitter setting out planned prescriptions and other measures agreed to for forestry operations in that part of the forest used by the two industries and necessary to allow the two industries to pursue their business interests.....learn more.
