History of the Oak Singers
The Oak Singers Choir was established in 1991, with it’s first concert in the
spring of that year. Since that time, the “Oak Singers” has grown from 23
to approximately 65 members.
The “Oak Singers” began as a rebirth of the old “Salem County Chorale”
established by Harold “Pete” Peterson over 40 years ago. Comprised of a
varied group of men and women from young adult to young at heart, many
members have performed with their high school chorus, church choir, or
similar musical group. Others have no previous singing experience, but
possess a passion for music.
Under the direction of Charles H. Musser, the choir performs two major
concerts each year- Spring and Winter Holiday- at Salem Community
College. The “Oak Singers” has also made appearances at Veterans'
Stadium in Philadelphia, PA and Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, DE;
Christmas Candlelight tour in Woodstown, NJ; Centennial Celebration in
Elmer, NJ; Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Induction; as well as
Graduation, Community Day, and other special occasions at
Salem Community College.
Membership is open to anyone who enjoys singing traditional, classical,
folk, modern, secular, or religious music. If you would like to become an
Oak Singer, please join us on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
in Davidow Hall room C109 at Salem Community College. The
rehearsal room is located directly behind the stage, off the rear hallway.
No fee or auditions required to join!
