This is the first year of one of the most popular generations of trucks ever made. The trucks come in a short or long wheelbase with a stepside or fleetside box. A wood floor is standard in the stepside bed and a steel floor is standard in the fleetside bed with wood being optional. The trucks have a small rear window standard and an optional "panoramic view" large rear window. The hood has Chevrolet letters across the front and a Bowtie emblem is in the center of the grille. Standard and Custom trim levels are offered along with a top-of-the-line CST (Custom Sport Truck) trim package. The standard 6 cylinder engine is the 250 with a 292 optional. The V8 models come with a 283 standard and have an optional 327. Transmissions include a 3-speed manual, 3-speed manual with overdrive (1/2 ton only), 4-speed manual, and two automatics: Powerglide and Turbo Hydra-Matic. The trucks have a hand operated parking brake and drum brakes front and rear.
