What
is People to People International?
People to People International is a
voluntary effort of private citizens dedicated to advancing the cause of
international understanding through direct contact among the many people of
the world. It is a non-political, non-profit organization that works outside
of governments to establish understanding between people of all nations. On
September 11, 1956, President Dwight S. Eisenhower invited a nucleus of
well-known business leaders to a White House Conference to establish an
organization composed of citizens working toward the pursuit of international
understanding, President Eisenhower believed that if people – by the
millions – could communicate directly their personal interest and respect,
it would be a real beginning toward creating understanding between citizens of
all nations. The technique was to be direct through people-to-people distinct
from official government contacts. The People to People program does not rely
solely on the ability of individuals to travel around the world to achieve our
goals. You can help by simply opening up your home to People to People
visitors from other nations. Today, we are proud to be part of the network of
People to People Chapters throughout the world that all work within the
Eisenhower Concept.
