DESCRIPTION
General description
- The main machine used is the Mini Excavator. The other machines used are the portable pulling machine, chainsaws, axes, minitiller, knapsack sprayer, and boom sprayer .
- The field maintenance operations on peat that are mechanised
are drain maintenance, stumps/logs/wood extraction, weed/brush clearing,
old pineapple plants clearing and wood shredding.

PERFORMANCE
- The work rate of the mini-excavator for clearing of brushes and old pineapple plants is 0.15-0.2 ha/h..
- The work rate of the mini excavator for drain construction and maintenance varies from 30-100 m/hr depending on the quantity of wood present, experience of the operator and design of bucket.
- The pulling machine after adaptation can extract up to 4 stumps per hour depending on the size of the stumps

STATUS
- Mechanised field maintenance of peat land using the mini-excavator has been practised by the estates on a contract hiring basis.
