| Opion Somnium started by one persons bedside. The music had slowly been developing for years under the influence of solitude and delirium into it's current sleep patterns of twilight napping in poppy fields. This state of dreaming went in to recording at the begining of this millinium and put out the first album under the name of "Opion Somnium" in 2001. Previous recordings were to be found in the discount "abstract/art hip hop" cassette tape bin in the bay area. This "avant-hop" background has had a subtle presence in the shaping of some songs though most might not guess from the fact that now the music is all totally instrumental and made organically. This move into the fields is where Opion Somnium began to pick up instruments for the first time and attempt to play simple but beautiful movements, going by intuition. Music theory and the reading and writing of music was something not to be picked up. The music was to be emotional and monumental, but simple at the same time. Becoming obsessed to layer the sounds into a sonorous warmth lead to using as many different instruments as hands could possibly get ahold of, and treat them with luscious effects. A new inspiration and saddening desire to fly with the birds drove Opion Somnium to circle feverishly around the dark depths of despair and hope for ascending the heights. After awakening from periods of prolonged sleep, Opion Somnium gets out of bed and vents throught the use of cello, bowed guitar, violin, piano, organ, singing saw,harp, flute, trumpet, voice-as-instrument,percussion sounds, field recordings, variable electronic aspects, and a bit of keyboard- then gets exhausted-beauty is tiring.... |
