I just finished seeing the second episode of Birds of Prey, and I'm still really impressed with this show. I was surprised and delighted when I saw Alfred in the opening credits, and am looking forward to seeing him as a regular. I also thought that Ashley Scott did a better job this time around, and it was great seeing more of Dinah and Mia Sara as Harley Quinn (yes she calls herself Harley Quinn!!).

I thought the villain, "Slick" Waters was good as well. The effects made him look like a live-action version of the old Marvel villain Hydro-Man, and the acting job was well done. He came across well as a weasely thug. I hope he reappears sometime down the line. I also liked the repeated mention of his nickname "Liquid Guy".

And finally, as was mentioned previously on the board, I really, really enjoyed the fact that Batman's other partners, Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and Jason Todd were mentioned. I mean, Dick and Tim were good. I'd expected them to get mentioned, but not so soon. I was caught off-guard with the mention of Jason Todd though. Jason Todd! The forgotten Robin! Was he killed by Joker too in this world? What a great set-up. I can't wait to see the Robins show up, and hopefully at least Dick (as Nightwing) will show up this season.

Contrary to what others may say, the show does pay respect to DC history. The characters are plucked directly from the comics, and the situations for Batman and Catwoman are based in continuity. Alfred, Joker and Harley are there. Black Canary, who will be Dinah's mother, will be showing up, and a few episodes after that, Lady Shiva from the Bat-books will be appearing, and in an episode with a Batgirl flashback no less!

I really love this show. I'm a fan that embraces the ridiculousness of comics and am really enjoying that this show seems to take pride in that.

I mean, would Clark Kent on Smallville actually refer to himself as a "superhero"?

WB Summary for "Slick"

Meanwhile, Barbara (Dina Meyer) believes Dinahs (Rachel Skarsten) story that shes just a runaway, but Helena remains suspicious. TV Guide Summary for "Slick"

Comicology for "Slick"

Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and Jason Todd are all Robins. Dick was the first, although he eventually out-grew his role of Batman's sidekick, and became Nightwing. It is not yet known if he became Nightwing on the BoP series. Tim Drake is the current Robin, and appears in both Batman comics, and his own self-titled series. Jason Todd was the middle Robin, and served for a number of years, until he was brutally beaten and murdered by the Joker.

The character of Slick is new, but is similar to both Inque, a recurring villain on "Batman Beyond", a show set in Gotham's distant future, and Hydro-Man, a Spider-Man villain at Marvel Comics.

Batarangs are those bat-shaped things Batman throws all the time.
