__________

Claudette Franklin Ford Scholarship Committee Awards a scholarship to a graduating senior who has been accepted into college or university and is planning to major in or has a special interest in communications or journalism. The Claudette Franklin Ford Scholarship Committee has awarded six scholarships, beginning in Academic Year (AY) 1998. Application materials and flyers are distributed to all senior high school counselors and English teachers, and to all yearbook and newspaper advisors in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS).

Initially, we received applications from only two schools - Banneker and School Without Walls. Since AY 2001 we have received applications from five traditional schools and one charter school: Banneker, Cardoza, Coolidge, Eastern, Roosevelt, and Washington Math Science Technology, respectively.

To date, applicants have been accepted by 31 colleges and universities: Carleton College (MN), Columbia University (NY), Cornell University (NY), Dartmouth College (NH), Delaware State University, Drexel University (PA), Elon College (NC), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (FL), Florida Memorial College, Hampton University (VA), Johnson & Wales University (RI), Michigan State University, Morehouse College (GA), North Carolina State University, Rice University (NY), Rutgers University (NJ), Salisbury State University (MD), Spelman College (GA), Stanford University (CA), Swarthmore College (PA), Syracuse University (NY), The College of West Virginia, The Ohio State University, Tuskegee University (AL), University of Delaware, University of Florida, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia State University, William Patterson University (NJ), and Xavier University of Louisiana.
