1st Orakei Sea Scouts
COME JOIN THE FUN!

Sea Scouts, ages 8 to 18, undertake all the activities that 'land' scouts do - and more. In addition to hiking, tramping, pioneering and campfires, we also go sailing, rowing and kayaking. During the summer, we tend to be primarily focused on water-based activities, including several weekend regattas during which we camp as well. Day regattas and inter-troop sailing days help sharpen our sailing skills in between times.

During the winter, we focus on skills, sailing tactics, bushcraft and crafts, as well as just simple fun things like racing go-karts. We organise several tramps and at least one ski trip to Mt. Ruapehu. Leadership training is provided for those who show the inclination.

Sea Scouts also participate in the standard Scouting New Zealand activities, including the ski lodge at Mt. Ruapehu, the mountain hut, the flying school, the canoe school and, of course, the tri-annual National Jamboree. There is also a National Sea Scout Regatta, held the year after the Jamboree, which involves ten days of water activities.

We are based at "the ship" on the NW edge of Orakei Basin.
