James W.Padgett Dies In Sleep
James William Padgett,88,died at the residence of his son Hilliard Padgett, 304 Forsyth, Monday at 7pm. He had been in declining health for the past several years, his condition becoming serious two weeks ago.
Mr. Padgett was born in Ball Ground on Dec.7,1862, son of the late Mr.and Mrs.Jacob Padgett, but had been a resident of Rome for 59 years. He was a member of North Broad Baptist Church and was proceded in death by his wife, the former Lillie Jones in 1925.
Surviving are four sons, Hilliard and Early Padgett of Rome, Arthur and Barney Padgett of South Gate, Calif; two daughters, Mrs.John Wyatt, Lexington and Mrs.Ruby Gunter, Riverside, Calif; one sister, Lucinda Pattey, Jasper; seventeen grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Jennings Funeral Home.
Burial: Oct.31, 1951 in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
Mrs.J.W.Padgett died Saturday night at 9:15 o'clock after a long illness at her home at the corner of Printup and North Broad St.bringing sorrow to her many friends and to the members of her family who survive her. Mrs. Padgett was 57 years of age and was a member of the Baptist faith. The funeral will take place from the North Broad Street Baptist church at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, with the Rev.E.O.Rutland and Rev. A.B. Elizer officiating. She is survived by her husband J.W.Padgett, two daughters, Mrs. O.C.Gunter of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mrs. John H.Wyatt of Leesburg, Ga; five sons, J.A., A.A., E.L, Hilliard and Barney Padgett of Rome. The following friends have been asked to act as pallbearers, J.W.Russell, W.C.Atkinson, Tom Hasty, Jim Fields, J.O.Harris and William Payne.
