The term Sfiraa refers to the different levels of elevated circles of the ancient medieval mystical Jewish discipline the Kabalah. I was fascinated by the idea the term symbolizes, mainly of the metaphysical energies transferred and delaminated through the different Sfirot, an idea which guided my inspiration and found its expression both through the overall structure and the detailed microstructure techniques. Throughout the work, I was guided by the principle of manipulating musical material through different settings of a basic formulated cell which is infused in different forms over different simultaneous time and space dimensions using mathematical techniques of musical evolution which contributed to the architectonic shape of the work, but nevertheless, not interfering with my sense of acoustical instinct and free imagination exploiting the different sonoric ossibilities of a piano trio. Thus, a multi dimensional mystical circle of energetic powers is revolved through this one movement but multi partial work. The work which was written in spring 1998, was commissioned and Dedicated to the Cellist Rapael Sommer and the Solomon trio who premiered it in London on the trios 1998-99 program as part of their contribution to the state of Israels 50th anniversary. The work was recorded in Year 2001 by the Israeli Broadcasting Service. Raphi Sommer has died while Touring is Israel in November 2001. |
