Nearly 300 children visited the PIE Halloween Booth at the Ocean Shores Fire Department Halloween Party. Volunteers handed out toothbrushes donated by the GH County Health Department, and when these ran out, they passed out candy. It was a fun night for all and a great show of support from our PIE parents and officers!

Teacher Appreciation

For Christmas, we purchased Martinelli's Sparkling Cider and attached two taper candles to each bottle with festive ribbon and garland, along with a note that read, "Have a Bright and Sparkling Holiday!"

During the week of Thanksgiving the OSE staff was given a personal loaf of banana bread with a small note attached.  The note read as follows:

"At this special time of year, and as we reflect on all we're thankful for-- it is with sincere gratitude in our hearts that you are among the blessings in our lives. Thank you for all you continue to do for our children.  The best to you and yours this holiday season."   We hope to continue to covey our appreciation with this gesture and others to come to the teachers and staff members who take such good care of our kids on a day to day basis!

During Homecoming Week for the Hyaks, the following poem was delivered to each teacher with a balloon bouquet in black/white/gold:

As we support the Hyaks during this week of Homecoming Fun,
PIE wants you to know that we appreciate all you have done!
We want the best for our football team
and of course our children, too.
We know they're safe and in good hands because they are with you!

We hope the balloons remind you
that you're special through and through.
Our school wouldn't be the same without you--
we appreciate all you do!

Library Work party was so much fun!

"WAY TO GO, COUG PARENTS!"...

We have reached the midway point of the "Cash Back for Schools" program, and I am happy to say that OSE placed fifth...thanks to all of you who participated! We will still be collecting *receipts (dated after 1-04-01), too. All schools will now return to a zero balance, so let's win again when the final prizes are awarded in June! Your continued support is crucial for our success, and I want to thank you once more.
* Accepted are: all Southshore Mall receipts, Five Star Dealership Receipts, Les Schwab Receipts, and individual plans for Regence Blue Shield.

Rachel Takagi, OSE's "Cash Back" Representative

Receipts can be dropped at Ocean Shores Elementary Office, North Beach Junior/Senior High School, or Ocean Shores IGA at the Service Center.

Follow this link to see our current status...After connecting, simply "select a Mall", then under "Community Events" select "click here to get cash back for your school"

Ocean Shores Elementary is now in the running for Cash Back for Schools at Southshore Mall! I am currently picking up receipts from the OSE School & the Jr. & Sr. High School (and soon from the IGA, too) on a weekly basis, and taking them to the SouthShore Mall Office for validation.  And I'm excited to say this is the first year that Ocean Shores Elementary has placed.  As of last Friday (10/20), we are in 5th place with $19,663.39.  So, if we can maintain the momentum, and at least stay where we are currently (if not move up a place or two), we will receive a "mid-way" prize of $150.00 for the school's general fund.  Thanks for your participation, and let's keep up the good work!

Book Fair Benefits Elementary School Library

The Scholastic Book Fair on October 23-27 was a great success, providing exciting books for our children and raising over $1400. Many parents and family members visited the fair. Besides purchasing books for their children and families, they also purchased 25 books for our Teacher Wish List Program. Our school will receive about $700 in Book Profit (books, rather than cash). We will "spend" about half of our Book Profit on filling Teacher Wish Lists and the other half will be spent on library edition books for our new school library.

Mary Elmore, Chairperson of the Book Fair, credits the success to the school’s support and the hard work of several volunteers, including, Sarah Coleman, Dina Davis, Amy Deibel, Maryhelen Freeman, Diana Fulbright, Vonnie Hammack, Stacey Hill, Cindy Lee, Jeanine Lewis, Judy Mayhew, Toni Park, Melinda Pope, Dawn Raymond, Crista Rogers, Deana Schlauch, Connie Severson and Daniela Werner. Elmore says plans are already under way for the next Book Fair. If you want to be a part of this wonderful event, call the school at 289-2147.

We have had wonderful helpers.  My thanks especially to Connie Severson, for setting up the volunteer schedule, and to Deana Schlauch and Dina Davis for their "extra" help!

Mary
