Game Summary

Lowell - The Cubs evened their record at 6-6 with an 8-6 win over the Cardinals at Shedd Park today.  The Cubs scored 5 runs in the seventh inning to come from behind for the win.

The winning rally featured a Jack Muse lead-off double followed by four straight singles.  The inning was capped off by a key RBI single by Oscar Colvin.  Frank Cossette induced an infield error to put the go ahead run across.

Jerry Kohl earned his first OTB save to secure the game after the rally.  Kohl pitched two innings of one-hit ball to preserve Thomas's (1-1) first win of the season.  Thomas pitched seven innings allowing six runs (four earned) on 9 hits and six strikeouts.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the first on an unearned run.  The Cubs evened it in the home half on a Muse double and a Ritchie RBI single.

The Cubs took their first lead of the game on an outfield error that allowed Kohl to score in the second.  The Cardinals regained the lead in the third on a walk, double and single.  Thomas stayed out of further trouble by inducing a flyball to left (nice catch by Randy Boucher), a strikeout and a come-backer.

The Cubs tied the score in the fourth on an RBI single by Knox.

Once again the Cardinals claimed the lead in the fifth as three runs scored on three hits and an error to make the score 6-3.  But that would be all the Cardinals would score as Thomas shut down the Cardinals in the sixth and seventh on twp strikeouts and nice defensive plays by Oscar Colvin at first and Ricky Greenhalge at shortstop.

The Cubs play the Tigers next Sunday at Furello Park in Woburn.  Tom Knox will be the starter as the Cubs attempt to get over .500 for the first time this year.
