Game Summary
Woburn - In stocks, an issue is said to have resistance
when there is a level at which something has to happen for the stock to
break through. For the Cubs, our major resistance is at .500.
Today proved what a tough barrier that is as the Cubs lost 25-8 to the
Tigers.
The Tigers started off with eight runs in the first inning featuring many balls that we just missed or went off of gloves. The Tigers tacked on a run in the third before the Cubs broke through in the bottom half with six runs. The Cub rally featured a double by Duffy Thomas and a 2 run triple by Tom Knox. The rally started on a single by Jack Sayers - seeing his first action in seven games as he took a hiatus to coach his son's team. From that point on it was all Tigers as the scored four in the 4th, single runs in the 5th, 7th and 8th and capped off their day with a nine run ninth. Despite the blow out, there were several Cubs positives. Marvin Ritchie pitched two innings giving up only an unearned run to bring his ERA down to 13.50 from infinity. Ricky Greenhalge reached base five times on a single and four walks. Ricky also stole three bases. Thomas went four for four with a double and triple. Scott Van Winkle made a nice running catch in left and letter was the pivot in a nice 5-4-3 double play. Frank Cossette had his first RBIs of the season. The Cubs retest their resistance by playing the Giants next Sunday at Shedd Park. Chuck Trafton will return to the hill after a long lay off. Maybe we shouldn't use that word on the Cubs? |
