Game Summary

Lowell -The Cubs crawled back to .500 at 7-7 with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Giants at Shedd Park.

The Cubs scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs.  After two outs to start the inning, Marvin Ritchie reached on a hit up the middle.  Ritchie then stole second and the Giants intentionally walked Thomas.  Ritchie stole third while the Giants were standing around to put runners at first and third.

Knox was then intentionally walked to load the bases for Chuck Trafton.  Trafton hit a ground ball to the hole between short and third.  Knox hustled in to second to force an error on the play as Ritchie scored the winning run .

Trafton returned from a five week layoff to pitch eight strong innings.  Trafton recorded eight strikeouts including four in a row by striking out the side in the third and the first batter in the fourth.

Thomas (2-1) relieved in the ninth to take the win.  The ninth featured a nice play by shortstop Ricky Greenhalge hustling after a short pop-up into left and throwing into second to get the runner from first trying for a double into a run down and and eventually an out.

The Cubs scored first in the first inning as Ritchie reached on an error and Thomas hit a homerun.  Thomas sent a two-strike offering down the right field line that hit the foul line just beyond the running track for the round tripper.

Randy Ochab made a nice play in sixth inning by snaring a line drive down the third base line and throwing to first for the double play.

The Cubs will once again try to get above .500 next week as they take on last year's champion White Sox in an 8:30 tilt at Greater Lowell Vocational School.
