Game Summary Lowell - The Cubs took a tough loss to the first place Phillies 6-4. The Phillies were able to avenge to close losses to the Cubs last year with four of their six runs being unearned. The Cubs took an early 1-0 lead as Steve Johanson drove in Marvin Ritchie with a single. The lead grew to 3-0 as the Cubs scored two unearned runs of their own. Chuck Trafton (1-1) cruised through the first four innings without giving up any runs. But a shaky fifth inning led to four Phillie runs. The Phillies would later add unearned runs in the sixth and eighth to complete their scoring. Trafton finished the day giving up eight hits with six strikeouts and only two earned runs to bring his ERA to 2.57. The Cubs only add one run to their total on an eighth inning RBI double by Scott Van Winkle. The Cubs record now stands at 2-2 as the head in to the Memorial Day break tied for second in the OTB National League standings. |
