Game Summary Lowell - The Cubs eked out a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Dodgers on Sunday. Despite a great pitching performance by the Dodgers Mike Fratus (0-4), the Cubs scored three runs on only 3 hits to take the win. Chuck Trafton (2-1) pitched equally well in his second complete game striking out nine. The highlight coming as Trafton struck out the last Dodger batter with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth. The Dodgers scored a run in the third, but the Cubs came back as Randy Boucher reached on an error allowing Mark Hamel to score the tying run. Solid Cubs' defense ruled the day as Terry Throwe started out things in the first inning with a nice catch of a hard shot in right field. Oscar Colvin made a nice relay a second base for a would be double play, but missed second (just ask Chuck). Mark Hamel made several nice catches in the outfield. DJ Shaughnessy and Jason LeFebrve made nice plays on the infield. Tom Knox started the winning rally in the eighth inning with a single. Jerry Kohl followed with a single. Randy Ochab walked to load the bases. Oscar Colvin then worked a lengthy at bat into a walk to force in the tying run. After a failed squeeze attempt, Ochab scored the winning run on a wild pitch to put the Cubs back over .500 at 3-2. The Cubs take on the Indians at Dracut High next. |
