Game Summary

Dracut - The Cubs lose a tough 9-7 decision to the Indians to drop to 3-3 on the season.

The Cubs scored 5 runs in the top of the first as Steve Johanson doubled in a run, Tom Knox and Jerry Kohl had run scoring singles and Randy Ochab had a sacrifice fly.

The lead wouldn't last as the Indians came back for six in their half of the first on five hits and an error making four of the runs unearned.

The Indians added two runs in the third and a single run in the fourth to complete their scoring off of starter Tom Knox (1-2).  Knox suffered tough luck again as many of the nine hits were off of gloves or just out of reach.

With the score 9-5, the Indians pitching kept the Cubs off balance the until the seventh as back-to-back doubles by Chuck Trafton and Johanson scored a run.  Both players had two doubles on the day.

Duffy Thomas pitched three shut out innings to keep the game close.

In the top of the ninth, the Cubs staged a late rally.  Randy Boucher singled with one out.  Terry Throwe followed with another single.  DJ Shaughnessy then picked a good time for his first OTB hit and RBI with a single to left scoring Boucher's pinch runner.

With the score 9-7, runners on first and second with one out, Thomas forced Throwe at third and Trafton could not beat out an infield grounder to end the rally.

The Cubs play the Pirates next at Shedd Park and will again try to raise their record above .500.  Chuck Trafton will be going for his third win on the season.
