Survivor: Africa - Survivor was taken into the heart of Africa, in Kenya for its third season. Despite a hard start from world events, Africa was still able to pull in decent numbers. Once again 16 strangers were stranded into two tribes on the season premier on October 11th, 2001. This time they were picked to live in bomas, or camps that were surrounding by brush and branches to keep them safe. This season, Survivor also had its first twist. After four people were voted off (two from each tribe) 3 contestants from each tribe were swapped. As the merge came around, four members of the Boran Tribe were able to dominate the game. They were able to easily take out the others competing against them. It eventually came down to Ethan Zohn against Kim Johnson and Ethan beat her out in the final vote. This season's memorable characters included Lex Van Den Berghe and Tom Buchanan who got 3rd and 4th respectively. Lex, Tom, and Ethan were also all invited to compete in Survivor's eight season, All Stars. Ethan Zohn still heavily promotes Grassroot Soccer and awareness of AIDS in Africa. Despite its lower numbers then the previous two seasons, Africa was still one of the top shows of the week.
