The original ship was built in 1665/66 for the Rotterdam Admiralty and was the flagship of Admiraal Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter from 1666 till 1674 and was involved in the following sea battles: The Four Day Sea Battle;  the Two Day Sea Battle, of 1666; the attack on Chatham, in 1667; the sea battle near Solebay, in 1672; the sea battles near Schooneveld and Kijkduin, in 1673. In 1678, it was the flagship of Schout-bij-nacht Jan van Brakel. In 1692, she was heavily damaged in the battle near La Hogue against the French. She made her last voyage from Hellevoetsluis to Rotterdam on the 1st of November 1692 and was decommissioned. Subsequently she was sold to a wreckers' yard in 1694.
This picture shows part of the stern. On top are  two lions and two cherubim, each sitting on a dolphin and playing a trumpet or flute. The figure of the sitting woman is on a pedestal. The golden figures are seasnakes. The five lanterns symbolised that the ship was that of the admiral.
