Civilian Housing

Housing in the community around Activities San Diego is more expensive than in many parts of the country.
The median price for a new home in the San Diego area is $320,000. Rental prices reflect the high cost of ownership.
Average rental costs are: 1 BR - $750, 2BR - $900, 3BR - $1150, 4BR - $1400. However, prices can vary depending on neighborhood.

Utilities are generally not included in rental costs. Water - $35.00 Gas - $35.00 and Electricity - $65.00 are typical monthly bills for an apartment in San Diego.

Natural gas appliances - water heater, stove and dryer - are used in most areas of San Diego.

Parking in "Planned Communities" can be a problem for multiple vehicle households. Many areas allow only two vehicles per household. RV's and boats are usually not allowed to be parked anywhere near your house. Some areas even prohibit parking of these type of vehicles on public streets. Storage areas for recreational vehicles are available (for a fee) at several military bases in the area.

Military Family Housing

Military housing in San Diego is not available for Coast Guard personnel. The DOD (Navy) has a 2-year waiting list and does not give the Coast Guard any kind of "preferred" status.

Leased Housing Program
Leased two, three and four bedroom apartments and houses are available in San Diego for eligible families. Typical waiting times for these units are one or two weeks. Contact the Housing Officer as soon as you receive orders to limit the waiting time!

Barracks at Activities San Diego
Unaccompanied and single enlisted personnel may be housed in the barracks at Activities San Diego, depending on space available. The rooms allow for two people per room. E-4 and above may be able to occupy a single room, depending on availability. Phone hookups are available, but must be arranged and paid for through the local phone company.

Renting

As noted above, the cost to rent a home or apartment in San Diego is  markedly more expensive than in most other areas of the country.
